Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) Decision Aid
The MAC Decision Aid Study is a low-risk study that helps us better understand what patients already know about their anesthetic options. It is comprised of three surveys: pre-anesthesia survey, decision aid survey, and post-anesthesia survey. The Decision Aid allows you to better understand what type of anesthesia is better for you and contains information about monitored anesthesia care in one document vetted by anesthesiologists. The results of this study will allow us to better understand patient decision making when it comes to their anesthesia type.
Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) Project
Prospective, randomized controlled pilot study at the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Simulation and Innovation evaluating an audio-visual decision support system designed to assist anesthesia trainees during perioperative patient deterioration. In a high-fidelity operating room simulation environment, anesthesiology residents and student nurse anesthetists were randomized to standard care or real-time audio-visual cues, including diagnostic suggestions and management guidance based on physiologic changes. Participants completed simulated scenarios such as anaphylaxis, amniotic fluid embolism, and pulseless electrical activity arrest, with outcomes measuring diagnostic accuracy and time to critical interventions.
Dental Data Analysis
This study analyzes multiple pediatric dental practices to create potential safety benchmarks. It is critical to investigate the access of care in dental practices to provide equitable dental healthcare in this affected population. Since children have low error tolerance and are at high risk for adverse events, the increased complexity in procedures under anesthesia requires special attention to the current guidelines for safe practices and quality of care.
